The project, spanning from October 2023 to April 2027, seeks to empower women and bolster resilience in vulnerable communities in South Lebanon and Beirut. Focused on smallholder and subsistence farming, it aims to elevate women’s livelihoods and fortify community ties. Envisioned impacts include increased income for agricultural and urban groups, enhanced performance of women-led businesses, and strengthened social stability. The initiative, led by Welthungerhilfe (WHH), collaborates with SHEILD, JAFRA, and Justice Without Frontiers (JWF). Geographically, it targets South Lebanon and Palestinian camps in Beirut. Through targeted activities, such as urban agriculture training, business capacity strengthening, and social stability initiatives, the project aspires to benefit over 5,746 individuals directly, with a broader impact on over 13,289 household members. Coordination with ministries, NGOs, municipalities and community-based organizations will ensure effective outreach and inclusivity, fostering sustainable development over the 43-month timeline. SHEILD will target 210 smallholder farmers across South Lebanon and Nabatieh, 130 kitchen gardens, 165 micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), 18 cooperatives, 30 interested startup individuals, and 10 community-based organizations (CBOs) for small NGOs in the area of operations. In addition, SHEILD will provide PSS and case management support, implement 10 community-led initiatives, and host networking events. SHEILD will also provide cash-for-work opportunities for 15 projects targeting both Lebanese and Syrians in South Lebanon and Nabatieh.
