What We Do Explosive Ordnance Risk Education SMAU delivers Explosive Ordnance Risk Education—EORE through schools, community sessions, public awareness activities, educational stories, songs, posters, digital tools, and inclusive materials. The sessions help women, men, girls, and boys understand the risks posed by explosive ordnance, recognize dangerous areas and suspicious objects, adopt safer behavior, and report hazards to the appropriate authorities. Special attention is given to children, persons with disabilities, displaced communities, and populations living in areas affected by conflict. SMAU has also developed accessible EORE materials for people with visual impairments, including Arabic-language Braille resources.

Through accredited teams, SMAU collects, assesses, and verifies information relating to suspected hazardous areas. The process includes consulting communities and local stakeholders, identifying evidence of contamination, marking dangerous locations, and prioritizing areas requiring further action. Non-Technical Survey provides the essential foundation for informed decision-making and future land-release and clearance operations.

Mine Victim Assistance supports individuals, families, and communities affected by landmines and explosive remnants of war. The approach may include facilitating access to medical care, physical rehabilitation, psychological and psychosocial support, social inclusion, and livelihood opportunities. The objective is to help survivors rebuild their lives, regain independence, and participate fully in their communities with dignity.

SHEILD Mine Action Unit (SMAU) conducts clearance operations to identify, remove, and safely dispose of landmines, unexploded ordnance (UXO), and other explosive remnants of war, helping restore land for safe civilian use. Working in accordance with the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) and in close coordination with the Lebanon Mine Action Center (LMAC), SMAU deploys trained clearance teams to systematically reduce explosive hazards in affected communities. Every operation follows rigorous safety, quality assurance, and operational procedures to ensure the protection of both personnel and local populations. By removing explosive threats from contaminated land, SMAU enables communities to safely return home, regain access to agricultural land and essential infrastructure, and rebuild their lives with confidence, contributing to long-term recovery and sustainable development.
